I'm an assistant professor at the Department of Computing and New Media Technologies at University of Wisconsins-Stevens Point. I teach Web Development and study human behavior with interactive systems and information.

Previously, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Speech-based and Pervasive Interaction research group, within the Tampere Unit for Computer-Human Interaction (TAUCHI).

In addition to conducting academic research, I have over 10 years of experience from customer-oriented user-centered design and evaluation projects as a consultant and project manager at the Usability Laboratory, a research service provided by a team of experience usability and UX researchers at TAUCHI.

I received my M.Sc. in Computer Science from University of Tampere in 2004, with a focus on Human-Computer Interaction, followed in 2012 by a Ph.D. in Interactive Technology on which I was advised by Professor Kari-Jouko Räihä. In my dissertation research I developed and studied tools that support mobile information access with innovative user interface solutions, including search query visualization and result clustering.

I've worked on various projects with CSCW and visualization emphasis over the years, developing new ways to support collaborative processes in work groups and knowledge work with information visualization and novel interaction techniques.

I'm interested in understanding how people interact with information, especially through interactive information visualization interfaces. Towards that end I'm always looking to learn more about information visualization design methods and processes, and new software architectures for supporting rapid prototyping of visualizations. My current research is focused on multimodal and ubiquitous interfaces for collaboration, communication and information access in various contexts, from technologically augmented learning environments to process control rooms in automation industry. Check out the research section for more information about my ongoing projects.

In my spare time I like to tinker with embedded systems, recently especially Raspberry Pi and other ARM-based systems.
